Anthony Lambert and Louis Nethercott are two former Royal Marine Commandos who are aiming to set a new world record by traversing Earth's five largest islands (Borneo, Papua New Guinea, Madagascar, Greenland, and Baffin Island) on foot. They're calling this endeavour Expedition 5, as you can probably imagine, it's an absolutely mammoth undertaking that will demand a lot of careful planning, a lot of strength and determination, and - crucially - a good deal of expedition equipment and safety gear.

And that's where we at SafetyLifitnGear come in.

Expedition 5 and SafetyLifitnGear

We're pleased to announce that our PETZL products will be among the items Anthony and Louis use to achieve their lofty goal. PETZL, as we've mentioned previously, are a French company specialising in high-quality fall protection and rope access equipment - their extensive product range includes:
  • Fall arrest harnesses
  • Safety helmets
  • Headtorches

Everyone here at SafetyLiftinGear is proud to be behind such an ambitious, inspirational endeavour as Expedition 5, and we are confident that Anthony and Louis will succeed, especially given the calibre of the equipment they're using! PETZL products are synonymous with sturdiness and reliability; each and every item is manufactured to exacting standards, making the company's range a superb choice for challenging environments such as those included in Expedition 5. The two men will also be using a variety of SafetyLiftinGear's own G-Force products, which are of an exceptionally high quality as well.

M-Build (a building and maintenance company based in Warwickshire) recently purchased an Electric Wire Rope Hoist from us and were extremely impressed with the lifting device. They loved how simple it made the task of lifting goods to the heights at which they operate.

We at SafetyLiftinGear sell a range of electric hoists, each with its own unique specifications and weight load limit, ensuring that any load can be lifted under any circumstances. Each electric wire hoist comes fully tested and certified, as well as coming with a 12 month warranty. All of our hoists are available both to buy and to hire.

Whether you were there for the action at Worthy Farm this year or not, we're sure that you've seen some of the mud-soaked horror stories that have come out of this year's festival. Of course, Glastonbury is known for being notoriously muddy, but this year's lashing of rain really took its toll on the site's parking area.

After all the chaos caused last Wednesday, with some festival-goers experiencing delays of over 10 hours as they journeyed into Pilton, the organisers wanted to make sure that they were prepared to help car travellers leave the festival on Sunday and Monday. As you may have seen in our previous blog post, we delivered several loads of towing chains to the site on Friday, to help ensure that all the provisions were in place to help cars flee the mud.

Since our last post, videos have emerged on BBC Points West, showing our towing chains in action as people are pulled out of the mud. Some even left the site as early as Sunday afternoon, with a host of acts yet to perform, in a bid to avoid the chaos of the Monday rush. You can see footage of tractors pulling vehicles out of the mud bath with our towing chains here!

If you're heading to a UK festival this summer, make sure you're prepared with the right gear! We have trolley carts, winching gear, tarpaulins and more, to make sure you have a great time, even in the British weather!

As we've proudly stated again and again over the last few months, SafetyLiftinGear is the official supplier of lifting / material handling products to The BLOODHOUND Project, an attempt to both break the land speed record and inspire a new generation of scientists and engineers.

Of course, even if we weren't involved in The BLOODHOUND Project, we'd still be closely tracking its progress - after all, who wouldn't be interested in a supersonic car that can travel at 1000mph?

One of the latest developments from Team BLOODHOUND is the creation of a mobile app that allows you to get the inside scoop on The BLOODHOUND Project and related topics like the history of the land speed record and the science behind the car that will hopefully break it.

The app is available for iOS and Android devices - get it from the App Store or Google Play now! It costs less than a pound, and all proceeds will be invested back into the BLOOHOUND education programme, so your pennies will be going towards a very good cause! Click here to find out more about the BLOODHOUND Blast app.

SafetyLiftinGear is an official partner of The BLOODHOUND Project, supplying the lifting equipment and material handling products that will be used in the construction of the BLOODHOUND supersonic car. More info here.

In 2008, Richard Noble and Andy Green announced their plans to smash the World Land Speed Record, while, at the same time inspiring the next generation to become enthusiastic about mathematics, engineering and science.

Undoubtedly, the BLOODHOUND SSC is one of the most complex cars created. It states on their websites, that when the car is completed it will comprise of over 3,500 parts, many of which have been designed specifically for the BLOODHOUND SSC, including unique engines designed by Jaguar and Bristol’s own Rolls-Royce.

Inside the BLOODHOUND SSC you will find a EUROJET EJ200 jet engine which will supply the car with only half of its thrust! A Auxiliary Power Unit (APU) in the form of a Jaguar Supercharged V8 Engine.  This will be used to supply 800 litres of high test peroxide to the rocket in just 20 seconds! And finally, the rocket engine, to accelerate the car to 1000 mph the rocket engine combined with the jet engine will provide a thrust of 212kN.

If you would like to go and see the car for yourself, The BLOODHOUND project are currently accepting bookings for their Rocket car experience workshops held during the Easter holidays, making a fun and education day for your children. Click here to read more.

It is a truly amazing project, one which we at SafetyLiftinGear are proud to help by providing lifting and material handling equipment.
