Big news: the SafetyLiftinGear website has had a makeover! Our design has been updated, which we hope will make it easier for you to find and purchase the equipment you need, but more importantly, SafetyLiftinGear.com is now fully responsive!
This means that our website now 'responds' to the screen on which you're viewing it. If you're using a smartphone, for example, we now look like this:
This new functionality should make it significantly easier for mobile and tablet users to browse our range and place orders online. You can still shop in three different currencies (GBP, EUR or AED), and you've still got hundreds of different items to choose from - we've just made it a bit simpler for those viewing the site on small, touch-activated screens.
The other major change is the addition of a 'Hire' option. Most of our gear is now available to hire as well as to buy; this means that, when you're looking at a product on our website, you may well see this underneath the usual 'Add to Basket' button:
Clicking the 'Hire Me' button will add the product in question to your 'Hire Basket'. This new feature allows you to select as many products as you like for hire, then send an enquiry to the SafetyLifitnGear team, who will respond with a price quotation as quickly as we can.
So what are you waiting for? Click here to return to the SafetyLiftinGear homepage and try our new website for yourself; alternatively, use the following links to navigate to a specific department:

Summer has arrived! School's out, and if the sun comes out too, Britain's beaches are sure to be swarming with smiling families for the next six weeks or so.
If you and your family are heading to the seaside this summer, there's one accessory that you simply can't be without: a beach cart!
As you can see, SafetyLiftinGear's garden carts are ideal for a trip to the beach - they can be used to carry all of your gear (towels, swimming costumes, buckets, spades, etc.) to and from the sea, and their chunky, heavy-duty tyres will have no problem with the bumpy, sandy terrain!
The beach cart featured in the photos above is our Garden Dump Cart, which can carry loads of up to 300kg and costs just £51.58 (inc. VAT). Once you've bought your beach cart, it'll last for years and years - every summer outing will be easier if you keep a cart in your boot!
As we've mentioned previously, our garden carts are also perfect for festivals. Why carry your tent and camping gear on your back when you could just pop it in a cart and roll it from car park to campsite with ease?
Visit our Garden Carts department to see our full range of handy, high-endurance utility carts!
Last week, the SafetyLiftinGear team attended the ABTT Theatre Show at Alexandra Palace in London. We think it's safe to say that the event went terrifically well - not only did we meet lots of new clients and interesting people, we actually came away from Alexandra Palace with a new trophy for the SLG cabinet!
Our Duke DCH battery-powered chain hoist was chosen as ABTT's Widget of the Year 2015, which is an award for the most useful product at the show. The trophy we received is pictured above alongside the prize-winning hoist itself (thanks to Meg and Lucy for their modelling skills!)
Here's what the ABTT judges had to say about the Duke DCH:
"The judges were very impressed with this product, and expect to see them in numerous applications and in the hands of many technicians soon, especially considering the budget conscious price tag. The benefits of a lightweight battery-powered motor capable of lifting 250kg or 500kg are huge. This is exactly the type of tool that will help solve many of the problems that working technicians have to deal with daily, offering a safe way to haul without needing large power and control infrastructure."
We were thrilled to receive this award from the Association of British Theatre Technicians, and we hope that everyone else enjoyed this year's show as much as we did!

The key piece of legislation for people who work at potentially dangerous heights in Great Britain is The Work at Height Regulations 2005. As stated on the HSE website, this legislation was put in place "to prevent death and injury caused by a fall from height". The regulations state that work at height must be:
Interestingly, the 2005 regulations do not specify any particular equipment that must be used when working at height - they simply state the need for "sufficent work equipment" and remind employers that, when selecting appropriate height safety equipment for any given task, they must take account of working conditions, fall distance, the duration of the job, and several other factors.
In a nutshell: the law doesn't state that you HAVE to use a safety harness or a fall arrest block, but you are required to have some kind of fall prevention system in place, and the aforementioned items are among the most commonly-used solutions. In the end, it is up to you to decide what kind of equipment is most appropriate for the task at hand.
If one of your employees suffers an accident whilst working at height, you may investigated by the Health and Safety Executive. If they decide that you neglected to provide the right safety equipment or otherwise failed to fulfil your duties as an employer (as prescribed by the 2005 regulations and several other pieces of legislation), you will likely be prosecuted, which can lead to hefty fines and even jail time.
So don't leave anything to chance! Plan your work properly, carry out a full risk assessment before starting, and always use the appropriate height safety equipment to minimise the risk of a fall.

We get a lot of enquiries from people looking to rent - rather than buy - our products, usually because they've got a one-off job that requires a special piece of equipment that they're unlikely to use again afterwards. Over time, equipment hire has become just as big a part of the SafetyLiftinGear service as the items we sell outright, and almost all of our products are now available to rent as well as to purchase.
If you are interested in hiring our lifting gear, our height safety equipment, or anything else you've seen on our website, give us a call on 0808 123 69 69 or email sales@safetyliftingear.com to discuss your requirements with a member of the SLG sales team.
