As we've proudly stated again and again over the last few months, SafetyLiftinGear is the official supplier of lifting / material handling products to The BLOODHOUND Project, an attempt to both break the land speed record and inspire a new generation of scientists and engineers.

Of course, even if we weren't involved in The BLOODHOUND Project, we'd still be closely tracking its progress - after all, who wouldn't be interested in a supersonic car that can travel at 1000mph?

One of the latest developments from Team BLOODHOUND is the creation of a mobile app that allows you to get the inside scoop on The BLOODHOUND Project and related topics like the history of the land speed record and the science behind the car that will hopefully break it.

The app is available for iOS and Android devices - get it from the App Store or Google Play now! It costs less than a pound, and all proceeds will be invested back into the BLOOHOUND education programme, so your pennies will be going towards a very good cause! Click here to find out more about the BLOODHOUND Blast app.

SafetyLiftinGear is an official partner of The BLOODHOUND Project, supplying the lifting equipment and material handling products that will be used in the construction of the BLOODHOUND supersonic car. More info here.

Garden Trolleys

Our heavy-duty garden trolleys are among the most popular products in the entire SafetyLiftinGear catalogue, and it's not difficult to see why: these robust little carts lend themselves to countless uses in all kinds of different environments!

Here are just five examples of the many places where we've seen our garden trolleys being utilised:
  • Music festivals. If you've ever been to festival like Glastonbury or T in the Park, you'll know that the car park is very often located quite a long way from the festival site itself. The long hike from car to campsite can be a huge pain, particularly if you've got a tonne of camping gear and/or beer to carry. Fortunately, there is a better way - as the photograph below shows, our utility carts are ideal for transporting your festival luggage around the field!

  • Trade shows. If you're showing off your company's products at a show or exhibition, our utility carts make it far easier to get them from your van to your stall inside the venue.

  • Construction sites. Our trolleys come with pneumatic tyres that are capable of travelling over just about any type of terrain with ease. This property makes them perfect for ferrying objects around building sites!

  • Family days out. As any parents in the audience will already know, taking the family for a fun day out at the beach or the local park means bringing all manner of toys, snacks, coats, and other stuff along with you. A garden trolley from SafetyLiftinGear can make all of these items far more convenient to transport, and as you can see from the photos below, it can also be used as a means of carting the kids around once their legs get tired!

  • Gardening. As you'd probably guess from the name, our garden trolleys are also very handy when you're in the garden. Our sturdy garden dump cart is a great alternative to the more traditional wheelbarrow, and no matter what you're lugging around your garden (or garden centre), it's bound to be more than up to the task.

Residents in the Tsuen Wan district of Hong Kong were shocked to find a work man working on the 10th floor of a high rise industrial building wearing no safety equipment.

The man, who had been hired to dismantle a glass window so they could install a new air conditioning unit, was seen balancing on a narrow ledge trying to get back into the building through a small window. Witnesses were so afraid of the man’s safety – they called the emergency services to prevent an accident.

The worker tried to jump through the window to exit the danger that he was in, however his first attempt failed, leaving the scared onlookers holding their breath. Luckily on the second attempt he managed to enter the building successfully.

Luckily this worker was OK and didn't slip, trip or fall. But it could have so easily been a completely different story. After all, all it takes is one misplaced step, a step on a loose piece of concrete, a gust of wind and an accident can tragically happen.

In fact, accidents from working at height are the single biggest cause of workplace fatalities and life changing injuries.  Yet we see time and time again, people who seemingly have no regard for their own, (or other peoples) safety and are willing to put their lives (and other people’s lives) at risk to will carry out work. There is no clear reason as to why people recklessly put their lives into danger in this manner; it could be that they fear that if they refuse to do the job they won’t have any work in the morning? The one thing we know is that no job is worth risking your life for.

It is your employer’s job to ensure that any work at height has been properly planned, is carried out by people who are properly trained to work at height, and that the correct safety equipment is provided. If you are not presented with the right equipment to carry out a job, you are well within your right to refuse to do the job until you either have either purchased the equipment yourself, or your employer provides you with the correct protective equipment.

The working at height regulations 2005 state that to stay safe you should only carry out work at height if it completely necessary to do so, and even then work should only commence if your workers have access to the right protective equipment.

Not only is it important that you are using the correct safety equipment, it is important that your safety equipment is in good condition. This means that your equipment has no signs of wear or tear, not fraying and not wearing thin. If, when checking your equipment before undergoing the work,  you see that there are signs of damage – stop work immediately and replace the damaged item.

Here at SafetyLiftinGear we supply a huge range of safety harnesses, from your basic height safety harness through to more specialist insulated harnesses. If are looking for  a specialist safety harness and cannot locate it on our website, please contact our expert customer service team by calling 0808 123 6969 or email sales@safetyliftingear.com
