No matter the industry, in most working environments, you're sure to find a work ladder stowed safely away behind the bathroom door (or something similar). In workplaces which require frequent use of work ladders, it's likely that you are acquainted with the risks associated with working at heights. If you aren't familiar with working safety around ladders, take a look at the Ladder Safety Procedures here.
As using work ladders is such a common occurrence, we thought we would take a look at our wide range of work ladders here at Safety Lifting Gear and the environments they are best suited to.
Telescopic ladders are collapsible and range from lightweight to heavy-duty, making them a suitable work ladder for a range of operations. Their collapsible ability makes them suitable to use at home or in small working environments. They can be neatly folded and stored away.
They are also perfectly suitable for contractors and riggers who travel about with their equipment in tow. Our heavy-duty telescopic ladders supply all the strength and durability required from a work ladder, but they have the benefit of being easily transportable.

Extension work ladders are ideal for use in construction and industry based work environments. Similar to the telescopic ladder, these extension work ladders can be reduced in size (though not as small as telescopic ladders due to their extendable aspect, making them easier to transport. Extension work ladders are specially made to work comfortably in construction environments.

An old classic, work step-ladders can be found in most retail, storage, and warehouse environments. As they fold away and are typically a lot shorter than a full-length ladder, step-ladders are a work ladder of choice when it comes to conducting low-level lifting operations.

Retractable Tool Lanyards are a piece of equipment you can attach to your work belt to hold your tools. Tool lanyards are ideal for those working at a height, as the lanyard can keep the tools close to the body and safe from falling. Retractable tool lanyards go one step further than normal lanyards, as the wire that holds the tools is fully retractable. This makes them smaller and easier to transport to heights.
This useful piece of equipment is quick and easy to use, just follow these steps.
First, ensure the tool you're trying to attach to your retractable tool lanyard is the appropriate weight. If your tool is heavier than the maximum weight the lanyard can hold, this could lead to potential breakage.
Once you're certain your tools are the right weight for the retractable tool lanyard, you can attach the lanyard to your work belt. Ensure it is placed to the side of you, as this is the most comfortable place to carry the tools.
Using one of the attachments that come with a retractable tool lanyard, attach your tool to the belt. Give the tool a tug to see if it is secured properly, and you should be good to go.
Here at SafetyLiftingGear, we have two different types of retractable tool lanyards. Here's a look at them.

A Bow Shackle is an 'O' shaped metal link which is closed by a bolt. Similar to an Anchor Shackle, the rounded design of both shackles allows Bow Shackles to take loads from many directions without developing a side load. When compared to a Chain Shackle, the more rounded shape of the Bow Shackle means they can also handle a thicker strap with ease.
A shackle consists of a body and a bolt which can be used to link to other items. They are primarily used to link different equipment together in rigging systems as they can be removed and attached easily.
Bow Shackles can also be used to recover vehicles as they can cater to most vehicle weights available. Many off-roaders will take Bow Shackles in their vehicle recovery kit when driving over rough terrain in order to cover all bases. The Bow Shackle works well for this because it offers more space in its rounded body for chains and straps which will be used to recover vehicles.
Before using a Bow Shackle, be sure to take notes of these rules on how to use a Bow Shackle.

Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is worn by workers to protect themselves from potential hazards in the workplace. Workplaces which require physical labour especially need the different types of PPE to protect their workers. PPE protects a variety of different body parts from harm, all the way from eye protection to breathing apparatus. But with so many different products you may be wondering what are the different types of PPE.
So to help you out, we will be taking a look at what are the different types of PPE, what they do and why you need them.
PPE Ear Defenders protect your ears from the damaging effects of loud sounds.
When working in a loud environment, such as construction work or drilling, ear protection is necessary to protect the inner linings of your ears. Damage from loud noises can rupture the eardrum or damage the bones in the middle ear. Tinnitus (a ringing in the ears) can also be caused by exposure to loud noises for an extended period of time. To protect yourself from these types of long term damage, PPE Ear Defenders are a necessity.
PPE Safety Goggles protect your eyes from debris and chemicals that may be in your work environment.
If you find yourself working in an area which has a lot of dust or particles in the air, safety goggles are the safest and most efficient way to complete your job. Safety Goggles are also necessary when working in an environment with chemicals. Chemical substances in the eye can lead to chemical eye burn, and in worst case circumstances, the loss of sight. This damage is easily avoided with the use of PPE Safety Goggles.
High Vis PPE Clothing ensures you are as visible as possible to your colleagues, passers-by, and vehicles.
High Vis PPE Clothing is necessary for those working in hazardous or poorly lit environments, such as a road or on construction sites. High Vis clothing typically has reflective bands sewn into them too, to increase the visibility during the day and night. When working on a road especially, High Vis PPE clothing will reflect the light from the car headlights and will make you clearly visible, preventing any road accidents.
PPE Multi-Gas Detectors display what type and what percentage of gas is in any environment.
PPE Multi-Gas Detectors are vital to any type of confined space work or any construction work involving pipes. Not only can a high concentration of different types of gas be physically damaging, it can also be extremely flammable. This is why a PPE Multi-Gas Detector is important to keep on hand in any environment in which you are unsure of the gas levels. This particular PPE Multi-Gas Detector also comes with audible and visible alarms to ensure you are completely aware of your environment.
A PPE Emergency Escape Breathing Apparatus can provide you with air through the use of an inflatable air cushion and a half mask. This kit can supply you with air up to 10 minutes.
If you find yourself in a dangerous environment without enough air, a PPE Emergency Escape Breathing Apparatus can provide you with those extra minutes you need to escape.
