What counts as working at height?
You are 'working at height' if you are working in a position where you could fall to a lower level and potentially injure yourself.
For example, if you are working...
- Near an unprotected ledge
- On a roof or skylight
- Up a ladder
- On a mobile elevated work platform (MEWP) like a cherry picker
- On the ground near a hole that leads to a below-ground level
...then you are working at height. In situations like these, precautions must be put in place to minimise risk. Difference work situations require different working-at-height systems; carrying out a thorough risk assessment will help you to identify what type of height safety equipment you need.
